‘Pretty’ comes from the mind of Jahmal Padmore, an incredible Toronto-based songwriter and musician. Over relaxed, lo-fi beats that borrow from jazz and soul and make a conscious effort to feel live, Padmore’s lets his smooth voice do the talking. “It explores the ideas of self-projection and how much one can believe their own hype,” he says. “What does it mean to believe in yourself as someone with value? What is it to judge others by their aesthetic or financial moral value?” This is the first single from his upcoming debut album and treats us to an appearance from Young Clancy, who demonstrates an effortless vocal flow.
